The Danish Library Central (DBC)

This is certainly not a world one would want to live in, the one brought to life here. [...] The story is well-constructed, and you continue reading with suspense, even though it’s tough reading.

Highly recommended for all libraries.

‘3 Degrees Celsius’ is the sequel to the excellent ‘Mali’. The family from Mali reappears, but the two novels can be read independently of each other. They share the theme of how our world looks when the climate goes haywire.

[...]

In *3 Degrees Celsius*, we follow two main characters, Bintou in Central Africa and Muhammad in a dying town in Algeria. [...] We follow both Bintou and Muhammad in their respective countries, each with their own experience of hunger, power, and helplessness. Like ‘Mali’, *3 Degrees Celsius* is truly chilling reading. Both because it’s set in 2040, where the climate catastrophes have already occurred, and because hunger and looming disasters turn people into victims.

Well-told, convincing. Recommended reading for politicians and other opinion-makers.

Torndahl Books (3 out of 5 stars)

*‘3 Degrees Celsius’* is the second book in the Victims of Hothouse Earth series, offering chillingly relevant climate fiction that will certainly make you reconsider your own carbon footprint.

[...]

With *3 Degrees Celsius*, Torben Mathiassen impresses once again by combining thought-provoking ethical issues with a frighteningly convincing universe. In a world where people starve and despair, extremism takes root. I have no doubt that religion will only become more significant in a future where our planet is under increasing pressure.

Despite the tension and conviction, the book didn’t quite impact me the same way as the first book in the series. I’m a very character-driven reader, and although Bintou slowly grew on me, I never truly became invested in either her or Muhammad’s story.

That said, I still highly recommend the series, and if you haven’t read book 1, you can read my very enthusiastic review of it here.

Cats, Books & Coffee (5 out of 6 stars)

*3 Degrees Celsius*. That's all it takes! Just enough for the Gulf Stream to collapse, leading to catastrophic consequences – the world map will be permanently altered. This is precisely one of the critical points in the climate struggle, which is why the book isn’t easy reading. It is both brutal in its descriptions and frighteningly realistic.

[...]

At its core, the story follows the girl Bintou and the boy Muhammad, and how they are affected by climate change. Both are incredibly well and intricately described, and you truly manage to understand their emotions and the background of their actions. Had the world not changed so drastically, they probably never would have made these choices. The challenges they face along the way are so vivid and realistically described that you are almost left speechless.

[...]

I hope as many people as possible read Torben’s series because it offers a truly insightful look into the catastrophic consequences of climate change – but as mentioned before, it’s not easy reading – but it is a realistic future.

Lars Elkjær, Author to 'Kannibalens spor' & 'Sindets bedrag'

A fantastic, gripping, and very well-written sequel. I was completely absorbed. The story flows easily and effortlessly in a believable way. Definitely recommended.
